Maxima manual transmission shift problem

My husband and I purchased our car in It car starting making a "jerking" motion two years later and has since gotten progressively worse. A little over a year has passed and because the problem is still very much present we haven't driven it in quiet some time. We took it to another mechanic and we're now being told that it is the transmission. We can? I see there are approx. It seems as though some one has to die or come near death for something to be done about this obvious problem.

My Nissan Maxima violently jerks when shifting gears up and down. This problem happens usually after the car warmed up and been driven for a hour or so but can happen anytime. Told the dealer and they said they cant feel it and I must just continue you to drive the vehicle.

This is dangerous when on the highway cause when changing lanes and the car shifts down it jerks bad and can cause me to crash if im not careful. I am very disappointed and am requesting something to be done. Vehicle is 5 years old ,2 weeks out of warranty , extremely well maintained with 43, miles. Began hearing a grinding sound coming from the manual transmission.

Nissan dealer and a second source identified the problem as the bearings in the transmission. Everyone I try to get an estimate for repairs were suprised that the bearings would go out with such low milage, especially since the transmission had preventive maintainance done by the dealer at 39, miles. Aug 7th, at 15, miles I originally reported clutch problem Aug 21st, at 15, miles Nissan in quincy repaired the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing.

This was covered under warranty at the time and the parts were replaced as a result of my visit on August 7th. After the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing was replaced, I returned to Nissan claiming the clutch? At that time they told me that since I just had parts replaced it may take a while for them to? October 11, at 18, miles they replaced my clutch master and slave cylinder because I was driving to work on the highway going about I went to shift and my clutch stuck to the ground and would not come back up.

I was not able to shift and was basically driving in neutral on the highway. This was extremely scary and I was very lucky that I did not get into an serious accident that day!

I slowly got off the next exit actually rolled off. I tried to pump the clutch and force it into gear. It eventually popped back up and I was able to get it into gear. I drove it straight to Nissan in the right lane with my hazard lights on. I explained to quirk Nissan what had just happened on the highway.

I was very upset? At 41, miles I had to have my clutch and flywheel replaced. I have talked to a few mechanics and they feel something is not right and that Nissan should be held responsible. I was driving on the interstate at 70 mph I went to down shift to 3rd but got 1st. I know this is not supposed to happen so I thought I was in 3rd gear. I let off the clutch and the car went from 70 mph to about 35 mph in 3 sec. I would have went through the windshield if not for the seat belt which work fine.

Well this ordeal left my car with 1 or 2 blown cylinder heads, bent, valves water out tail pipe and its not due to the fact I didn't know how to drive a stick I have been driving them since I got out of school in Can you tell me why this happened? I have had problems with my Nissan Maxima since purchasing it brand new. Within 60 days of purchasing the car, I had to take it back to the dealership due to a malfunction with the brakes.

I am on my fourth set of tires and have had three alignments and my front end inspected. I have had to replace an engine mount. Now I am in need of a new transmission because there is internal damage due to the clutch slipping even though it is an automatic car. Once of my friends just replaced his transmission in his Maxima. I know that Nissan is well aware of the defects in the Maxima, but are not owning up to their responsibility in taking care of all of the problems that I have read about and talked about with different Maxima owners.

I have also had the battery replaced twice. The body style of the car is beautiful, but the car itself is a piece of crap due to poor mechanics. Power Train problems. Automatic Transmission problems. Cool thanks for the link Ill go through the diagnostics and see what I can figure out. I may take it to a transmission shop to get their opinionestimate too. Moved Thats definitely a strange one. Im not too versed in auto trannies so have no clue where to start. Two things do come to mind I know theres some little piece in the shift linkage on the maxima s that tend to break or deform causing shifting issues and I believe there is also supposed to be a temp sensor that puts the tranny in a higher gear when it thinks its cold though I think it goes into.

If this is an automatic you need to check the shifter linkage. Get a friend and have him look at the transmission between the trans and the radiator on mine at the lever that should be moving as you select different gears.

If its not moving your linkage has broken. Hey Justin glad you made it. These guys at Nico know their stuff. Everybody wants a car like mine they just dont know what the hell it is Q45T Black on Black on 18s. Im just curious as to what the whining may be. Is that typical of broken linkage. If the linkage seems to be functioning properly there is most likely an internal failure. If thats the case try looking on httpwww. Solonoid Control Assy mentioned in the link would cause such a symptom Id think or the default of some input sensor such as the throttle position sensor or others.

Its a very scary experience -- I was driving on the freeway when suddenly lost power even if I stepped on the accelerator and the engine is giving some loud noise. Thanks to bpomps for posting the solution I will go ahead and purchase the Speed Sensor but I was wondering if this item issue has been raised as a possible Recall Notice This is a potentially safety issue.

Thanks -Conrad ahhh the ol maxima issue I got an older model audi that has a V6 like the maxima but the audi V6 has a supercharger on it -- ill never forget you maxima and the problems you gave me but it was a learning experience and I was the person who figured out the issue after no one could I fixed the links to youtube.

You had repeated one of them. This is baffeling. But I do know that the CVT is mostly not serviceable and is usually replaced. Have the dealer look at it. Aside from submitting a complaint with NHTSA have you done servicing on your transmission Which model year and what mileage do you have in your car. The Infiniti nissan transmission s are reliable and your car or the 6th Gen maxima could be an exception. I flush the transmission fluid in all my cars every 2 years plus a bottle of LubeGard Red and never have had any transmission issue knock on wood.

I believe the transmission will last until at least miles or more. However when I first bought it a couple of months ago the transmission fluid had not been changed in a while..

The fluid was dark and way over due for a change. The transmission had a strange shuttering feel after it shifted. I thought -- well here come the transmission troubles. So I did some research and found some years nissan. Very useful page for J30 maxima owners Climate control schematics and more. Cant offer much help for the instrument lighting issue or bose system sorry.

Ive yet to front the cash for an FSM and my Chilton manual only offers basic chassis schematics I had issues with my instrument cluster a few years back. For a while the tach was acting very funny. Then one. I was reading the problems of the 93 maxima tranny and my 94 maxima has similiar problems except mine will go into all gears after sitting for a period at least a few days and then go back into the neutral state when above a certain speed 50kmhr.

Also if I dis-connect the battery and allow the ECU to re-set itself then that seems to have a positive effect as well even though I cant determine any. Great stuff guys. I also dont endorse Lucas products anymore aside from their fuel injector cleaner. Unless its a beater I wont let that gorilla snot go near anything in my vehicle. Agreed aside from the latter. After much research recently and some personal experience you should not use Dexron. After the pan drop refill with exact amount of ATF drained.

Then have the transmission fluid flushed. You can emulate transmission flush by doing multiple drain and refill times. Run engine for secs then stop and drain fluid. Recommend fluid is nissan. Thanks so much. Ill make sure to check that out. I have a quick question. Do you know if a wheel speed sensor will cause the transmission to act up Our mechanic changed out one of them but I didnt know if water could be getting into one and causing some of these problems with the ABS transmission and speedometer.

You definitely have something wrong. Just because you are not showing a CEL does not mean there are not codes in the system. Go by an Autozone or some such place and have them pull codes for you. You may have some bad injectorscoils As far as the tranny its a craps shoot with a used one. My freind is telling me to change the gaskit too what do u say It really depends.

If your transmission fluid is turning brown it could be as simple as that the majority of your transmission fluid is dirty and it really needs a flush badly. Take it to an Infiniti dealer and have them flush the transmission fluid with OEM nissan. Its not necessarily a huge issue but its something that needs to be taken care of.

Infiniti techs are trained on these things and can better diagnose the issue. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer on three separate occasions for identical failures, but there were no resolutions.

A transmission diagnostic test was performed at an independent mechanic and the computer sensor was replaced. The technician also recommended that the transmission be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 63, and current mileage was 79, The engine started to whine during normal routine driving with only 55K miles.

This repair will cost thousands of dollars and based on the frequency of this repair with the transmission and timing chain in Maximas, the logical recourse from a manufacturer's point of view should be a product recall. Aug 7th, at 15, miles I originally reported clutch problem Aug 21st, at 15, miles Nissan in quincy repaired the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing.

I have talked to a few mechanics and they feel something is not right and that Nissan should be held responsible. I've had a problem with my 04 Maxima almost from the beginning. Basic symptom has been if the car sits idling in traffic jam, or after a stop and go local trips, I develop a lot of play in the clutch pedal.

Normally, when I apply light pressure to the clutch pedal, I feel resistance immediately. When its acting up, I feel significantly less resistance in the pedal from the top, sometime almost half way through the pedal travel.

Definitely seems heat related and does not appear in the winter. Despite the "slop" in the pedal, the clutch appears to be shifting ok and engages about mid pedal travel. Last month new symptom appeared. Twice, once after it was sitting at work all day and another time after returning from a 3 hour concert, the clutch pedal was all the way to the floor.

I literally had to stand on it to get car into gear. Once, moving, it returned to normal operation after a couple of miles of driving. Originally took it to the Nissan dealer, but they could never reproduce the symptoms. At 30K, Nissan mechanic said it needed a new clutch without even looking at it. When to local shop.
