Zelda game order release

We're not entirely sure, but it's clear that some new mechanics will be introduced into the Zelda formula, while one of the first game's sentient boulder enemies that's Stone Pebblit to you is shown with a Bokoblin fort on its back for BOTW 2, suggesting even more dynamic interplay between the game's many enemies. Take a look below We got our very first glimpse of Breath of the Wild 2 at E3 , though, with this spooky trailer that shows Zelda and Link exploring an underground chamber — with some mysterious runes, glowing hands, and a brand-new haircut that has set the internet on fire.

Suffice it to say we're excited. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 trailer that first revealed the game is just 82 seconds long and there's no dialogue whatsoever, but there are some clues to be gathered from it.

It features a torch-carrying Link and Zelda traversing a dark dungeon beneath Hyrule no big surprise there. Spirit-like tendrils creep around the musty tomb they're exploring, with the pair riding a large elephant-like beast.

Something shocks the pair, and then we cut to what appears to be the resurrection of some long-dead and creepy looking warrior. Could this be the return of Ganondorf? The video then cuts to a long shot of Hyrule Field, with Hyrule Castle in the distance.

There's a tremor, the castle is smothered with dust The clip finishes with a message that reads: "The sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in development. We wouldn't usually expect so much animation to be done so early in development, but it probably helps that Nintendo already has the in-game engine from Breath of the Wild.

The first Nintendo Direct of could be approaching according to recent rumors. I know that there are a lot of people that are eager to find when the next NintendoDirect is scheduled. As it is, Nintendo is yet to confirm its plans for its next Direct so we can only keep our fingers crossed. In the list, Breath of the Wild 2 appears as targeting the second half of the year which would make it beyond June January 7, That said, the second half of the year lines up with the recent reports that Breath of the Wild 2 could be looking at a November release.

Adding to this, SamusHunter also tweeted to suggest that we could see some new Legend of Zelda Amiibo launch in fall, noting that these release windows could indicate "possible launch periods of the associated games". As it is, we should take all of this with a pinch of salt until Nintendo makes an official release date confirmation. IGN co-founder Peer Schneider made an interesting comment during the st episode of the gaming website's Nintendo Voice Chat podcast.

On the topic of a lack of open world games coming to Nintendo Switch, Schneider stated that could change "next November when we're playing Breath of the Wild 2," potentially signalling a late release for the game. However, we'd recommend taking the comment with a pinch of salt. Nintendo has confirmed that Breath of the Wild 2 is currently on track for a release window, and a release around the holidays of that year seems realistic.

Three recent patents filed by Nintendo could give us an insight into the gameplay mechanics of Breath of the Wild 2. Finally, there's a third patent. The trailer appears to show something similar to this at around the 50 second mark, where Link travels through the underside of a stone bridge to appear on top. There's still a wait for Breath of the Wild 2 but Nintendo has released an HD remaster of Skyward Sword in the meantime and we think it's worth playing while you wait.

We think, from the mechanics and characters to the locations and narrative, both Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild 2 could share a surprising amount of commonality and we've explained why you should consider paying attention to Skyward Sword HD in the run-up to the release of Breath of the Wild 2.

Nintendo's Treehouse is always a great place to find new info on upcoming Nintendo games, and Breath of the Wild 2 is no different. However, whereas Majora's Mask reused lots of assets, Trinen wanted to make it clear that this is indeed a true sequel. A new Breath of the Wild 2 fan theory is suggesting that Ganondorf could be a playable character in segments of the game. Bear in mind, this list only features mainline Zelda games and does not include any spin-off titles.

Table of Contents Show. Played from a 2D overhead perspective and with a strong focus on exploration , the game saw players controlling a young hero named Link as he attempted to save Princess Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule from the Prince of Darkness, who would later be known as Ganon.

This follow-up to The Legend of Zelda sees Link trying to save Princess Zelda yet again, only this time from a side-scrolling perspective. The game is a lot more action-oriented than the first and features RPG elements not found in later games.

Among these elements is a leveling-up system that allows Link to use experience points to upgrade his abilities. Additionally, Link has the power to cast spells during battle. Considering Nintendo never released another Zelda game in this style, The Adventure of Link is often regarded as the black sheep of the series.

While it refines many of the mechanics and concepts of the first game, it also introduces some of its own, such as making arrows separate items.

Link was given the ability to walk diagonally and even run after obtaining the Pegasus Boots. Combat saw improvements as well, with Link being able to swing his sword sideways in addition to his default forward attack. In , the game would see a modified port release for the GBA, which also included a new multiplayer-focused title called The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords. The game takes place after the events of A Link to the Past and sees Link traveling by boat when a terrible storm leaves him shipwrecked on Koholint Island.

Released on September 20, , the remake introduced new features such as the ability to create custom dungeons. This stemmed from the fact that game designers were still getting accustomed to the idea of a character having to navigate through three-dimensional space, resulting in a lot of obscure early 3D titles.

However, Ocarina of Time was unlike any of those games and invited players on a journey that would allow them to explore a much larger Hyrule kingdom in 3D. Here, Link is forced to re-live the same three days over and over again, Groundhog Day-style, to prevent a giant falling moon from destroying the land.

The game has a much smaller scope than Ocarina of Time and has been recognized for its darker themes and more mature undertones compared to other entries in the series. You could easily pair up this little multiplayer experience with The Minish Cap, as there are a lot of similarities between the two regarding where they place in the overall Zelda mythos — before most of the famous and modern games, basically!

The long-running feud with Ganondorf kicks off here, too. And as for what causes the timeline to split, well, that would be Princess Zelda sending Link back in time, a move which in turn forever changed Zelda history. It is generally thought that after Link was sent hurtling back through time, he decided to leave Hyrule for a bit. And it is during that time away that he gets caught up in a time loop that keeps repeating the same three days over and over again.

He does return home, at the end of the game, where he joins the Hylian army. This game continues the Child timeline, and is remembered by many for its creepy moon. Sticking with the Child timeline now, this one adds more confusion to its placement in the timeline, because we actually have two versions of Link on our hands — as if things were not confusing enough! Onto the last game in the Child timeline, now. But it still remains a game that is hotly debated as to where it should be placed. Originally, many thought it was connected to Link to the Past, but the Child timeline reveal changed all that.

Welcome to the Adult timeline! Centuries have passed since Link was sent back in time in Ocarina, and without anyone to protect the world, Ganon was able to do some pretty hefty damage. To counter that, the goddesses decided to flood, and then sink, Hyrule — the iconic location became locked in the depths of the ocean. As far as Zelda goes in terms of pure storytelling, this is one of the best chapters the series has given us. Wind Waker introduces a new Link, who has grown up hearing tales of the legendary Link of old the one who was sent back in time in Ocarina.

The new Link comes of age in this game and becomes the protagonist of the series for a time. Link and Tetra set off to find a brand new kingdom at the end of the last game, and in Phantom Hourglass, the pair are unfortunately shipwrecked and then trouble ensues — as it inevitably does.

This is a strange one, really, as it is more of a mini-game than a full entry in the franchise. No major impact is made on the timeline and most of it takes place in a dream. New Hyrule is the setting for this game, which is also part of the Adult timeline, even though it takes place about years after the events of the previous game. It is also the first to give us a playable Zelda! Cole is the main villain here, sort of, having been possessed by a resurrected Ganon he has a habit of doing that.
